“It is the manipulation of the paint on the surface that is important. I am concerned with the arrangement and distribution of colours and shapes on a flat surface. My objective is not to copy from the world and make a pleasing reality, it is to make an equivalent version, an intensification of experience within the formal limits of the activity.”
